Welcome to the FRC Page
Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers
co-founders of FRC and the FIRST organization
FRC is the FIRST organization's flagship division and is considered the premier robotics organization in its class. FRC is open to all high school students and has registered teams in multiple countries. Each year, FRC teams are given a game with a specific set of rules and regulations. Teams then have six weeks to design and construct a robot to compete in the game. Each game's regulations generally include limits on the robot's dimentions, weight, and a list of allowed materials. To overcome these limitations, teams must develop innovative ways to complete the tasks set forth in the game.
Once the six week build season is finished, teams compete in regional competitions held throughout the United States and in several other countries. The top teams in each regional are then invited to compete in the national competition. Teams may also register directly for nationals without having to win a regional competition, but only a limited number of spots are available. Teams that excel in the national competition recieve awards for their achievements, many of which are considered great honors. FIRST also awards several million dollars in scholarships each year to teams and students as recognition of their merit. Despite these awards, the most important reward FIRST gives is the knowledge and skills individuals acquire that will help them excel in their chosen careers. This has been, and always will be, the primary reason for FIRST's existance.
